A Photo A Day Project – self portrait.

Day 11: Today is my birthday 🙂 Another day older, another day wiser. I wanted to mark the occasion with a self portrait. This is not a self portrait I’d usually put on display however my birthday signifies a new beginning and  a sense of freedom like I’ve never felt before. Life is too short to harbour regrets, what if’s and maybe’s. I will celebrate who I am right now as there is no one else like me.

The image was difficult to get on my own. I set the camera on a tripod, pre-focused just inside the glass, plugged in my intervalometer to take a shot every ten seconds for 2 minutes and hoped that something turned out ok. I was only using natural light (there’s a large window parallel to the shower screen), the ISO was set to 640, F4 (for a shallow depth of field), slow shutter speed of 1/10th of a second in order to capture the water as a blur. In post processing I converted the image to black & white, cropped to square, added lots of grain and more contrast.

The second image (on the right) was my second choice.

Today is the day to embrace who you are, tomorrow you will have changed.

Live. Love. Learn.
